Under this motto, the Cologne-based architecture firm Lepel & Lepel the interior design concept of the new building for German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) GmbH in Bonn. GIZ, which operates internationally on behalf of various federal ministries, is based in Bonn and Eschborn. The six-storey new building on Friedrich-Ebert-Allee has been able to accommodate 850 employees since the end of 2019. The intelligent and flexible workplace concept with sliding furniture and write-on walls supports communication and creativity within the team. The open work areas are complemented by sitting areas with small meeting tables, tea kitchens, lounges and there is also a retreat area with bean bags and armchairs for concentrated work.
When it comes to materials, emphasis was placed on naturalness and authenticity. Glass, wood and concrete are complemented by sustainable materials from the region and revived with accessories from the project partners' countries to create an identity.
The canteen is about physical well-being and communication. Around 380m² of MOSÁICO cement tiles were laid here. The mix of cultures is underlined by a patchwork of tile patterns. The different patterns in various styles, from classic to art nouveau to a modern geometric pattern from our artist collection, harmonize with the color concept of earthy, warm tones. The patchwork indicates different areas without separating or defining the space for other furniture. The ambiance is complemented by various lamps and ornamented dividers and invigorates meals and informal meetings.
