The Vienna Alumni Club visits Cologne

August 11, 2024

Managing Director Wolfgang Pisar studied business administration from 1977-1981 at the Vienna University of Economics (WU Vienna), one of the largest business universities in Europe. After successfully completing his master's degree, Mr. Pisar, like every university graduate, was one of the so-called alumni.

The term “alumnus” [from lat. alumnus] can be translated as “borrowed” while the feminine alumna [from lat. Alere] for”Nourish, Rearing” stands. In the Roman Empire, alumnus was called a pupil, also a foster son, and an alumna was therefore called a foster daughter. After the founding of monastery schools, which are called alumnate in singular form, a male student was named alumnus accordingly.

Alumni events or organizations such as the WU Vienna Alumni Club therefore strive to maintain relationships with former “pupils” of a college or university. Mr. Pisar is active in the Cologne/Düsseldorf hub of the Vienna University of Economics and Business Alumni Club and, as part of his commitment, has invited to an alumni meeting at the Mosáico showroom in Cologne. At this meeting, the alumni gained insights into the traditional craftsmanship of cement tile production, which is still not significantly different from the previous one, and learned more about the production and work processes in Marrakesh and Cologne. Thomas Planinschetz, WU alumni hub representative in North Rhine-Westphalia, was particularly impressed by the many pattern and color variants, which are all put together by hand.

In addition to Mr. Planinschetz, other alumni were of course also present, including alumnus Mike Schumacher and his wife Stefanie Schumacher. In fact, the two were so impressed that they decided to use the elegant atmosphere of cement tiles in their current building project. This conversion of a hotel into the new address of “Steuerberatung Schumacher GbR” will be completed in the next few weeks. Information about this can be found on the Internet at https://stbschumacher.de.

The newspaper of the Vienna University of Economics and Business Alumni Club also reported on the visit to Mosáico in Cologne. At the end, we would like to show you the article here.

Many thanks to our alumni guests for a successful day, to the Alumni Club newspaper for the great article and to the Sünner Brauhaus for the delicious food at the end.
