New floor with cement tiles — In the heart of Croatia, the historic region of Slavonia stretches between Danube, Sava and Drava. In addition to Croats and Serbs, small groups of other nationalities such as Germans, Italians and Hungarians live here. We at Mosáico are now inviting you on a short trip to Pakrac!
Cologne-Vienna-Pakrac: In the footsteps of a Baroque architect
The village was first mentioned in the 13th century. Around 500 years later, the Serbian Orthodox were consecrated in 1768 Trinity Cathedral Crkva Sv. Trojice instead of. The first renovation is carried out just 30 years after its completion. This happened from 1793 to 1796 under the direction of the Viennese architect Hermann Bolle. This comes from Cologne, i.e. from the city where the Mosáico showroom is located today.

The small cathedral of the Slavonian Eparchy (diocese, diocese of the Eastern Churches) is currently getting a new floor — with hand-cast cement tiles from the Mosáico factory. The church and the neighboring episcopal palace were severely damaged during the war in 1991. Since 2012, there have been signs of renewal — and now it is the soil's turn.
Cement tile carpet
In the classic cement tile paints Red, mustard and black tiles cover the entire floor. In order to underline the historical and art-historical significance of the small cathedral, Mosáico used traditional motifs, as can be seen in old photos.
The pattern of the floor was based on the original model and shows typical neo-Byzantine motifs.
There are echoes of the neo-Byzantine elements that architect Bollé integrated into his renovation work around 220 years ago. Since then, the cathedral and bishop's palace have been considered one of the most important monuments of neo-Byzantinism in Croatia.
3 colors — lots of patterns
Various tiles were laid in the Trinity Cathedral for the “carpet”
- plain colors in red, mustard and black
- with stylized floral motifs around which small diamonds are grouped
- as a pattern across corners; when folded in groups of 4, they in turn form a floral or cross motif
- Motifs that are reminiscent of embroidery and lace patterns
- antique classic meander pattern

The installation work is about to be completed. Finally, the cement tiles are professionally impregnated and treated with a protective layer of wax. And so believers and art lovers will soon be able to enter the Baroque-Neo-Byzantine Trinity Cathedral again.
