Marion and Johannes Ebner are the owners of the family-run company Ebner Studio Optik in Mettmann near Düsseldorf. For their new shop, they were looking for an eye-catcher for the counter in the middle of the room. By searching in specialist stores and then researching on the Internet, they became aware of cement tiles and became enthusiastic about the material during a visit to the Mosáico showroom. As an optician with their own master workshop, they appreciate handwork, they found the hand-cast cement tiles wonderfully suitable.
They chose tiles with pattern 140.2 from our favorites catalog, a traditional pattern in subtle shades of gray with splashes of mahogany. There were also monochrome grey tiles as borders measuring 10 cm x 20 cm. The daughter and her partner took over the cladding of the existing 4.70 m x 0.85 m wooden bar, who also demonstrated their craftsmanship.
In July 2021, the new premises at Kleine Mühlenstraße 6 in Mettmann were moved into. The bar is the heart and absolute eye-catcher of the shop. “Everyone who comes in is delighted and strokes the tiles,” Mrs. Ebner told me. The semi-matt surface of the cement tiles is also ideal for this. This turns the counter from eye-catcher and eye candy to handfeel.
