Our contribution today is about Hôtel Marsil, whose name is inspired by Captain Marsilius, who saved the city of Cologne from Roman Emperor Vitellius. The hotel is located in the heart of Cologne, not far from the Neumarkt stop, and offers perfect access to Cologne city center, which invites you to stroll and shop.
In the past, before Hotel Marsil opened its doors, a trendy bar, which played electronic music from the loudspeakers, attracted the artist and gallery scene that celebrated in the house on Marsilstein until the early hours of the morning.
Martin Bachem, an architect friend of the two owners, who happened to be at the counter in the electric bar earlier, then implemented this very personal and characterful renovation of the hotel.
Together with Mr. Bachem, a concept was developed that successfully combines the old and newer parts of the house time and creates great bridges between the styles in the interior.
Classic terrazzo floors have been combined with Art Deco style tiles, which are directly connected to floral cement tiles that caress the kitchen. The tiles laid seamlessly together are intended to give the impression that walls have been broken out and the individual rooms have been connected to form a large whole. Mosáico cement tiles were also used in the rooms, more specifically in the bathrooms. There, our Jakob Hentze artist edition picked up on the free spirit of the exhibiting artists and thus rounded off the room concept.
Today, the hotel attracts the scene and also counts celebrities such as actress Nora Tschirner (Keinohrhasen, Tatort) or the Hamburg DJs Moonbootica, who are well-known in the house and techno scene, among its guests.
Each of the 18 rooms, which are located either in the listed old building or in the newer building from the 1950s, is decorated with works or photographs by various artists and photographers. This gives each room its own unique charm.
The owners, both also photographers, travel around the world a lot and are not typical hoteliers. It was important to them that Maison Marsil should be a place for their guests where they feel at home. After spending a night at Hotel Marsil myself as the author of this blog, I can only say that the participants more than succeeded. A stylish, well-designed hotel that focuses on comfort. The friendly service does the rest to make a stay at Maison Marsil a successful stay and its guests regular guests.
Thank you for the wonderful cooperation, the friendly phone call and the lovely local service.
