On Barcelona Allee in Cologne Kalk, one of our most loyal customers has set up a nice additional branch. Bäckerei Mauel is a traditional company founded in 1883 by Barthel Mauel in Wormersdorf, southwest of Bonn. Back then, as you can guess from the year, the first bakery still had to make do without electricity. Electricity did not arrive in Wormersdorf until 28 years later, in 1911, and the flowing water followed again a few years later, in 1930.
Insights into the successful new branch in Cologne Kalk
A lot has happened in over a hundred years of history, and the company is now in the hands of Peter Mauel in the fourth generation. The former bakery in Wormersdorf became a franchise company with a new, modern bakery in Meckenheim and 23 branches in the Cologne-Bonn area. The name and legal form have also changed to Mauel 1883 GmbH, on Company website You will find further information, interesting facts and also a photo competition to mark the 135th anniversary of the founding.
But despite all the changes and developments, the traditional company has always remained true to its values and convictions: quality and craftsmanship at the highest level.
All baked goods are made in the bakery in Meckenheim using traditional family recipes and the best ingredients. Mauel 1883 does not use ready-made convenience goods that can be ordered and baked wholesale. Here, flour is still tested for its baking properties and purchased from the local miller. Flavor enhancers and other artificial additives have lost nothing in Mauel's breads, rolls, cakes and pies. Peter Mauel and his employees bake fresh and you can taste it.
IQ Back, the Institute for Quality Assurance of Baked Goods, which is regularly used to test baked goods, also confirms the high quality with the rating “very good”.
All the more gratifying that, as in Lichtstraße, there is now another Mauel 1883 location on Barcelona Allee in Cologne Kalk and that we from Mosáico were able to contribute to the design of this great, new branch with our also handmade cement tiles. As in previous projects, in Cologne Kalk, the tiles specially produced for Mauel with the “1883”, for which their own stencils were made, as well as ornamental tiles with their own color scheme were laid in the branch. The elegant, calm shades of gray and ivory create a classic, relaxing atmosphere that is in perfect harmony with the branch's modern design. This clearly reflects the tradition and modernity that Mauel 1883 GmbH also stands for.
