Homesickness can be described as a longing feeling of being at home or in one's home. But sometimes you get homesick when you long for a bit of peace and comfort in hectic times, for example in the middle of a big city.
Since 2012, it has been no longer a problem in Vienna to let yourself and your home become a place of peace and comfort. Because in 2012, the”homesick“at Wiedner Hauptstraße 81 and has been offering its customers wonderful, elegant home textiles such as blankets, pillows, upholstery and also decorative items and accessories from the design category ever since. The look must be right, but the quality of the individual articles is particularly important to the managing director.
The owner of the pretty shop, Sonja Ladstätter-Fussenegger, has a sure sense of good design — as a designer of textile production at Fussenegger company This is self-evident, of course. When the operator of the neighboring store decided to move out, Mrs. Ladstätter-Fussenegger seized the moment and extended her 90 square meter small homesickness to almost four times the area. She didn't do this alone, she got Achim Schmitz, a friendly architect on board. Together, they developed a successful concept that supports the presentation of the goods. The old laminate floors were removed and a classic terrazzo floor appeared underneath, which combined with a rough industrial style, already formed a good basis. In addition, there were exposed brick walls and our Mosáico cement tiles from the artist's edition by Jakob Hentze, which the architect from the architecture firm Hypothesis had already used in an earlier project, Villa La Haut.
On the wall, the Penta02 tile in linen provides a refreshing color contrast, while Penta01 in ivory and mahogany, classically laid on the floor, visually supports the division of space. But our tiles can support the room concept not only on walls and floors; the elliptoid tile in midnight blue and steel was also used on the presentation tables.
Ms. Ladstätter-Fusegger raves about the positive effect of the tiles and her customers also often ask where she found and bought them.
The expansion of homesickness has not only significantly increased the sales area, but also the customer base and stimulated the revival of the entire street. The owner is pleased that more and more stores that match the vibe of a hip big city like Vienna are now settling around her. The street is alive, and it's all because homesickness has grown.
Thank you so much for this lovely project, the great conversation and the lovely story. All the best to Mrs. Ladstätter-Fussenegger, the homesickness and the Architekturbüro Hypothesis.
